About NEET UG
The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate), or NEET UG, is conducted by the National Testing Agency as the common entrance examination for undergraduate medical education. Its results are used for MBBS and BDS admission and, under the applicable regulations, for courses including BAMS, BUMS, BSMS and BHMS.
The examination tests Physics, Chemistry and Biology at the level and scope defined in the official syllabus. Biology carries half the total marks, but sustained performance requires candidates to combine biological recall and interpretation with accurate physical reasoning and chemical problem-solving.
For the current bulletin, notices and candidate activity, use the official NEET UG website.
NEET UG exam pattern
Paper format
Every question is compulsory under the 2026 pattern. Each question has four options with one correct or most appropriate answer.
Physics
Physics assesses conceptual understanding, mathematical relationships, diagrams, units, estimation and numerical application.
Chemistry
Chemistry covers physical, inorganic and organic concepts together with the practical principles specified in the official syllabus.
Biology
Botany and Zoology together account for half of the questions and marks in the complete paper.
Marking
A correct response receives 4 marks, an incorrect response deducts 1 mark and an unanswered question receives no mark.
Duration and mode
The official examination is conducted in a single day and shift using a paper question booklet and OMR answer sheet.
ExamAcers delivers online practice for convenient preparation and analysis. The actual NEET UG examination is conducted in pen-and-paper mode, so candidates should also rehearse accurate OMR marking under timed conditions.
NEET UG syllabus
The National Medical Commission publishes the syllabus used by NTA. The summaries below group related units for planning purposes; candidates should use the official syllabus PDF as the final checklist for every included concept and practical skill.
45 questions
Physics progresses from measurement and mechanics to thermal phenomena, waves, electricity, magnetism, optics, modern physics and experimental skills.
Units and measurements, kinematics, laws of motion, work and energy, rotational motion, gravitation and the properties of solids and liquids.
Thermodynamics, kinetic theory of gases, oscillatory motion and wave phenomena, including their equations, graphs and physical interpretation.
Electrostatics, current electricity, magnetic effects of current, magnetism, electromagnetic induction, alternating current and electromagnetic waves.
Ray and wave optics, dual nature of matter and radiation, atoms and nuclei, and electronic devices.
Measurements, observations, graphs and the operating principles behind the laboratory activities listed in the official syllabus.
45 questions
Chemistry combines quantitative relationships, atomic and molecular structure, periodic trends, reactions and practical principles across three connected branches.
Basic concepts and stoichiometry, atomic structure, bonding, thermodynamics, solutions, equilibrium, redox and electrochemistry, and chemical kinetics.
Classification and periodicity, p-block and d- and f-block elements, and coordination compounds, with emphasis on trends, structures and properties.
Purification and characterization, reaction principles, hydrocarbons, functional-group chemistry, biomolecules and prescribed practical chemistry.
90 questions
Biology spans the diversity and organization of living systems, cellular processes, physiology, reproduction, heredity, health, biotechnology and ecology.
Classification of living organisms, plant and animal groups, morphology, anatomy, tissues and the organization of major biological systems.
Cell structure and function, biomolecules, cell division, transport, mineral nutrition, photosynthesis, respiration, growth and development.
Breathing, circulation, excretion, movement, neural and chemical coordination, digestion and the integrated regulation of body functions.
Reproduction in organisms and humans, reproductive health, inheritance, molecular genetics and the mechanisms and evidence of evolution.
Health and disease, useful microbes, biotechnology and its applications, populations, ecosystems, biodiversity and conservation.

Eligibility and admission
Age
For NEET UG 2026, candidates had to complete 17 years on or before 31 December of the examination year. The bulletin stated that there was no upper age limit.
Qualifying subjects
Candidates must satisfy one of the recognized qualifying-examination routes and document the required Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, practical and English conditions.
Counselling and admission
All India, state, central or deemed institution and other seats follow the applicable counselling authority, reservation policy, eligibility rules and document-verification process.
Eligibility and counselling conditions can change and may differ by course or authority. Verify the current NTA bulletin, the Medical Counselling Committee guidance and the relevant state or institutional rules.
Preparation tips for NEET UG
Map every unit to concept review, textbook work, MCQ practice and revision. Do not assume that an older coaching checklist reflects the current syllabus.
Distinguish related terms, processes, diagrams and exceptions. Use active recall and mixed questions to test whether details remain accessible under time pressure.
Connect formulas with assumptions, units, diagrams and physical meaning. Review whether an error came from the concept, chosen method or calculation.
Balance numerical physical chemistry, trend-based inorganic chemistry and mechanism-aware organic chemistry in every revision cycle.
Track incorrect responses and uncertain guesses separately. Improve question selection so that increased attempts do not come at the expense of accuracy.
Complete 180-question sessions within three hours and separately practise clean, correctly aligned OMR marking to reflect the real examination mode.
Before applying
Dates, fees, application fields, accepted documents, examination cities, dress and centre instructions, eligibility and counselling rules can change. Use the current NTA bulletin and notices together with the guidance of the counselling authority responsible for the seats you intend to pursue.
Frequently asked questions
A 2027 registration schedule has not been verified as of 12 October 2026. Check the official NEET UG website for the next bulletin and application notice rather than relying on the previous cycle's dates.
Apply only through the registration link on the official NEET UG website. Register, complete the application, upload the prescribed images and documents, pay the fee and retain the generated confirmation page.
The 2026 rules permitted appearing candidates to take the examination provisionally, but they had to pass the qualifying examination and satisfy the required conditions by the applicable counselling stage.
The 2026 bulletin permits the requisite Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology and English subjects to be studied as additional subjects after Class 12 through a duly recognized board, subject to documentary proof and the stated conditions.
NTA normally announces a correction window and identifies which fields can be changed. Review every entry before submission because not every field may be editable later.
Retain the transaction evidence and follow the current bulletin's payment-resolution instructions. Contact the concerned bank or payment gateway and the NTA helpdesk where required; do not treat the application as complete without its confirmation page.
NTA publishes a city-intimation slip and later issues the admit card. The admit card contains the binding centre, reporting time and examination-day instructions.
Follow the current post-examination procedure for viewing the scanned OMR sheet, recorded responses and provisional answer key. The bulletin governs challenges and whether any later rechecking or re-evaluation is available.
MCC conducts counselling for the categories of seats under its authority, while state and other designated authorities manage their respective seats. Candidates may need to register separately with more than one counselling authority.
No. Admission depends on rank, course eligibility, category, quota, choices, seat availability, counselling participation and successful document verification.
Yes, the result is also used for courses and selection processes specified by the applicable authorities, including AYUSH courses and certain nursing or veterinary pathways. Verify the exact current rules for the course being considered.
